Principality Building Society’s branch at the heart of Pwllheli town centre is celebrating its 50th anniversary since it first opened its doors to customers.

The branch officially opened its branch on High Street in December 1968 and has been serving the local community as part of Wales’ largest building society.

To celebrate the special occasion, staff greeted Members who came into the branch with birthday cake and a glass of fizz, giving them the opportunity to win a signed Welsh rugby shirt in a raffle draw.

Mike Jones, Chief Risk Officer at Principality Building Society, said:

“For 50 years, Principality has been building strong, loyal relationships with its Members in the local community in Pwllheli.  It’s really important for us to be able to provide a trusted, face-to-face service for our customers – a service where they can readily access advice and support in order for them to prosper in their homes. This is a fantastic milestone for Principality in Pwllheli.”

The building society has more than 50,000 Members across north Wales, and more than 500,000 across Wales and England.

Carol Bennett, Senior Branch Manager at Pwllheli, said:

“The 50th anniversary of this branch marks our dedication to the high street here and in towns across the whole of the country. While a number of financial institutions have chosen to withdraw branches from local communities in recent times, we’re more committed than ever to our high street branches.

“To celebrate with our Members in Pwllheli, some of whom have been a part of Principality since we first opened all those years ago, has been really special. We have become a proud part of the community in Pwllheli, with our Members continuing to use and recommend the branch to friends and family. We’re looking forward to celebrating more anniversaries in the future.”
