School project shortlisted for construction awards
A major school build project has been shortlisted for a coveted national construction industry award.
Christ the Word Catholic School has been shortlisted in the Social Infrastructure Project of the Year category at the British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA) 2021.
The BCIA look to recognise and reward excellence in project delivery and the delivery of positive outcomes for society. These awards also celebrate the hard work and dedication of the whole project team involved.
The building was funded by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools Programme and delivered a brand new educational facility for pupils aged 3-16 in Rhyl.
Partnership working between the Council, the Diocese of Wrexham and Keir Construction delivered the site which includes a chapel, Four-court sports hall, main hall, small hall, drama studio, all-weather pitch and specialist classrooms such as music, design technology, and science.
The school, part of the Diocese of Wrexham, was officially opened in 2019, with final external work completed the following summer.
It caters for 420 full time pupils aged 3-11 and 500 pupils aged 11-16, all overseen by Headteacher Amanda Preston.
Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts, the Council’s Lead Member for Education, Children’s Services and Public Engagement, said: “The Council is delighted to have been shortlisted for the Social Infrastructure Project of the Year category. This really highlights the great partnership working between the Council, the Diocese of Wrexham and Keir Construction which has ensured Christ the Word Catholic School is providing a fantastic 21st century learning environment for pupils.”
Amanda Preston, Headteacher, said: “We are delighted that our beautiful school has been shortlisted for this national construction industry award. Our fantastic facilities provide outstanding teaching and learning opportunities for all of our children.”
The BCIA will be taking place on 13 October 2021.
