Wales HR Awards announce chosen charity

The 2019 Wales HR Awards has announced Macmillan Cancer Support as its chosen charity and will raise funds for new Specialist Palliative Care Unit in Llantrisant.

The £7m state-of-the-art palliative care unit is being built at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital by Macmillan Cancer Support and the National Garden Scheme, in partnership with Cwm Taf University Health Board. It will provide vital care for people with terminal cancer and other life limiting conditions in the Rhondda and Taff Ely areas.

The project is on track to open its doors in May this year and will now benefit from proceeds raised by those attending the Wales HR Awards on 22 March. Those making a donation will have the chance to win some exciting prizes while contributing to a good cause.

Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Manager Nikki James said

“Macmillan is thrilled to see the progress of this unit, our biggest built in Wales, and we are delighted to be the Wales HR Awards’ chosen charity.

“The unit will be an ultra-modern and welcoming environment with state-of-the-art facilities for people needing palliative care, and we’re proud to be building it in partnership with Cwm Taf University Health Board and the National Garden Scheme.”

The Wales HR Awards were launched in 2017 by leading recruitment agency Acorn and commercial law firm Darwin Gray. More than 350 HR professionals will gather at The Exchange Hotel in Cardiff for a glittering black-tie ceremony to celebrate the success of 34 finalists and discover if they have been chosen to receive one of the evening’s coveted accolades.  New categories were announced for 2019, including ‘Best HR Initiative’.

Acorn’s Director of Operations Maria Larcombe said:

“We are delighted the Wales HR Awards will contribute to the progress of such a fantastic facility. We hope the unit will improve the lives of people with cancer and their families for many years to come.”

Fflur Jones, Head of Employment law & HR at Darwin Gray said:

“It is fantastic to see the Awards not only celebrate HR success across Wales but also supporting the incredible work achieved by Macmillan by raising funds for this important new facility.”

Awards up for grabs include HR Team of the Year, Best Use of the Welsh Language in HR, Independent HR Consultant of the Year, HR Director of the Year and HR Apprentice/Trainee of the Year, with all winners being selected by a panel of industry professionals.
