On 12th October 2020, iAchieve launched the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health on their widely popular e-learning platform, with the aim of further supporting Welsh schools with the delivery of nationally recognised vocational qualifications. iAchieve supplies a complete online solution, including content and assessments endorsed by NCFE (the awarding body), which is matched precisely to the specification, helping schools to seamlessly introduce this highly topical qualification. iAchieve are dedicated to making vocational courses accessible, and this refers to both the method of study, and the ability for schools to offer them.

The iAchieve team has over 50 years combined experience in vocational education, during which time they’ve seen many changes to the educational landscape. What has not changed, is the need for schools to offer high-quality, relevant and engaging alternative options. Schools are always balancing pedagogy with performance and outcomes, and iAchieve’s new programme aims to do just that.

The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health carries 46 capped points (equivalent to 1 GCSE). The content of the course covers principles of healthy eating, how to plan a healthy diet, weight management, understanding eating disorders and food safety at home. It is relevant to all learners and teaches the art of staying healthy.

iAchieve have developed a complete online solution which spans the entirety of the course content. Both teachers and learners can log in remotely, or in the classroom. Learners can complete work independently and track their progress through the course. Teachers can access learners’ work, provide feedback and mark assessments.

The iAchieve online learning platform has become very popular throughout Wales because of the flexibility it offers. It supports classroom delivery, independent learning and blended learning. It can be used to support a more traditional approach to learning or flipped learning.

Schools all over Wales are already using iAchieve to support their delivery of the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity. Committed to making vocational qualifications accessible, iAchieve wanted to offer more choice.

Recognising that the implementation of vocational qualifications can be hard for schools, iAchieve decided to invest in developing resources for another GCSE equivalent course to expand the options available to learners. iAchieve always aim to provide resources for relevant, engaging courses that are current and offer skills and knowledge that serve the learner for life. iAchieve carefully consider the courses they create resources for and want learners who use iAchieve to leave school with qualifications that will allow them to progress on to relevant further study or employment.

The NCFE CACHE Nutrition and Health qualification aims to give learners intending to work in areas such as sport and recreation, exercise and fitness, hospitality and catering or healthcare an understanding of nutrition and health, to support their role in the workplace.

Amanda Madine, Company Director at iAchieve said, “vocational style qualifications can really break down barriers to learning, and they offer a wonderful alternative to GCSEs for those learners that may not reach their full potential through a purely academic curriculum. We’re delighted to add another subject to our existing Welsh package. It gives learners real life skills, and supports learners in achieving a valuable qualification. At iAchieve, it is really important to us that learners are given all the support they need to achieve happy and successful futures.”

“We’re delighted to be working with iAchieve and believe the resources that have been developed are a great asset to this particular qualification, especially in the current climate, providing schools with the flexibility to deliver a more blended learning approach.” Julie Hyde – Executive Director of Education and Training Strategy at NCFE.
